GCB2VZG – Early for Kamnik 2025?

Are you planning to be in the Kamnik area on Thursday, 18 September? We have a suggestion for you. Direct your navigational devices towards Komenda, a small town a short drive (10 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bicycle) from Kamnik. It’s already a nice area for afternoon geocaching, and our orga-team is working on expanding the menu with additional geocaching »flavours« by September.

We invite you to wrap up your geocaching day and meet other Kamnik 2025 early birds at the first event of the extended Block Party weekend! Join us from 17:00 to 19:00 at Planinski dom Komenda.

The event venue, Planinski dom (mountain lodge) Komenda, is a restaurant and picnic place, located on a grassy knoll in the outskirts of Komenda. It sits at the edge of the forested area that covers the hills towards the Šenturška gora and Tunjice villages. The location is affectionally called the »Mountain Paradise« (look for the geocache of the same name) as it’s a starting point for numerous hikes into the foothills of the Alps. It’s a perfect place for a geocaching event!

The restaurant is a great choice for a late afternoon lunch or dinner. The offerings include pizzas from the wood-fired oven, a variety of meat and fish dishes, and their highlights,  »spoon dishes« (such as stews and soups) and delicious »grilled meals«. No one will go thirsty here, whatever their beverage of choice may be.

Parking is available at the event venue. For »Drive & Bike« visitors, we suggest the large parking at the hippodrome (also convenient for Pogačar exhibition).

Pogačar roundabout
Tadej Pogačar, current UCI world No.1 (record 200+ weeks in total), in action at Tour de France.

Roads around Komenda are where the pride of Slovenia and cycling champion Tadej Pogačar, a local from nearby Klanec village, made his first tours on a bicycle. This is why we suggest you get to the event by bicycle, if possible. During the event, we will cycle to the iconic Pogačar roundabout just a few minutes away and take a group photo there. And you will very likely, as a cycling enthusiast or a geocacher, visit the nearby open-air exhibition »Tadej Pogačar: Behind the Big Stage«.

Activities:

  • meet and greet the organisers and other early bird attendees.
  • get geocaching suggestions and hints from the locals.
  • try to climb a T5 tree using climbing gear.
  • test your tree-fishing skills.
  • solve the event Adventure lab Adventure.

Nearby attractions:

  • Pogačar roundabout painted in colours of his Grand Tour victories (hopefull, there will be a new coat of paint in honour of his summer triumphs).
  • Open air exhibition »Tadej Pogačar: Behind the Big Stage« with exclusive photos chronicling his journey from childhood to becoming a multiple Tour de France winner.
  • Lončar’s museum: a few steps from the event venue, an admission-free museum, owned by a local collector, showcases a rich ethnological collection and various other curiosities, including a fascinating collection of old-time tractors.
